Traveling with toddlers can be an adventure in itself, and as a parent, you know that keeping your little ones entertained on the go can be crucial to ensuring a smooth journey… That’s where the magic of a toddler busy bag comes in! In this post, I’m excited to share with you how I’ve transformed a simple hanging toiletry bag into the ultimate travel companion for parents. This isn’t just any busy bag; it’s a carefully curated collection of activities and essentials designed to keep your toddler engaged and happy during your travels.
Whether you’re heading out on a road trip, catching a flight, or just need a handy bag to keep your child occupied during errands, this toddler busy bag is a game-changer.
Start off with a folding toiletry bag with a hook – I purchased mine from Kmart. Here’s a link to an inexpensive one similar to the ones I purchased for the twins currently available at Kmart.
What’s great about a hanging toiletry bag like this is that there’s lots of room to fill up with small bits and bobs to keep their attention. It’s also fun for them getting to choose what to get out of the bag to play with, as well as opening/closing the zips. You can choose to build your busy bag around a theme if there’s something you know your toddler loves – I chose to stock up on inexpensive items that didn’t matter if they got lost / ruined during our hectic travel day!
My favourite sections to browse at Kmart were the arts & crafts section, education section, as well as the toys section. I’ve put a little star rating (out of 3) to confirm how our toddlers reacted to each of the items placed in their bags!
Revie and Roo each got a:
- Fidget caterpillar ⭐️
- Wind up mini animals (they LOVED these!!) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Wooden threading kit (this was split across both busy bags)⭐️⭐️
- Small colour-free/mess-free colouring in books ⭐️⭐️
- Mini car ⭐️⭐️
- Pop tubes (split a pack across the twins) ⭐️⭐️
- Sensory items (wrapped in aluminum foil/tin foil) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
- As well as lots and LOTS of stickers – foam stickers are great! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The other items I bought with us are from Temu.. I’ll share a BIG Temu travel haul as soon as I have a moment to put it all together!
